Family Counseling

Hi! I’m Dr. Bre Ford

I Love working wit individuals, couples, and parts of a family. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I believe in “systemic” counseling - that is, that every member of the family affects and influences the whole family. Working with multiple members of a family - children, teens, adult children, and parents - can be instrumental in helping everyone feel understood and receive the support that they need. I am here to provide a safe space for all clients.

What To Expect

Working with a Marriage and Family Therapist is a little different than working with an individual counselor, in that I view each person as part of a family, or system. We incorporate your personal goals with the interactions you have with others, both as a means of enhancing your important connections with others, as well as exploring problematic relationships that are in need of boundaries. Overtime, this process can lead to improved mental health, better relationships, and an enhanced sense of self-worth. By combining insight with action, we will not only address immediate challenges but also equip you and your children with tools for long-term personal growth and resilience.

  • I work with children by creating a safe, playful and supportive environment where they can express themselves in an age-appropriate way. I use developmentally informed approaches such as play therapy, sand tray therapy, child-led therapy, and anxiety-reduction therapies to help children process their feelings, decrease anxious behaviors, build resilience, and strengthen their relationships at home and in school. Areas of focus for children: anxiety, school refusal, social issues, changes to the family (divorce, blending families, etc.)

  • I support teens by offering a nonjudgmental, safe space where they can explore their thoughts, feelings, and identities. I build trusting relationships through empathy, authenticity, and respect for their growing independence. Using a combination of talk therapy, creative expression, and evidence-based practices, I help teens navigate challenges that present in both the big picture sense as well as day-to-day life. I work collaboratively with parents whenever possible to support communication and connection with a family. Areas of focus for teens: anxiety, depression, LGBTQIA+ identity, self-esteem, coping mechanisms, and social stressors.

  • I work with college students by providing a safe space (often virtually so they can attend therapy while at school) to navigate the unique challenges of college life and emerging adulthood. Whether they are managing academic pressure, identity exploration, relationships, or mental health concerns such as anxiety or depression, I help students build insight, coping skills, and self-compassion. My approach is collaborative and empowering, with an emphasis on fostering resilience and supporting personal growth during this important stage of life. Most college-aged clients feel comfortable with my continued collaboration with parents in the therapeutic process, which can be instrumental for helping them feel an ongoing sense of support from their family.

  • I work with parents to support their confidence, connection and co-parenting relationship in the often difficult journey of parenting. I help parents navigate challenges such as behavior concerns, emotional regulation, family transitions, and communication struggles by offering practical techniques and developmental understanding. My approach is collaborative and compassionate, with an emphasis on strengthening the parent-child relationships and empowering parents to respond with intention and care.

My Approach

I integrate multiple therapy techniques to tailor interventions that best support the family’s or individual’s specific needs and circumstances. Each of these techniques offers unique tools for addressing challenges you may be facing. Counseling is collaborative, requires commitment, and will help you build healthier relationships—whether with yourself in individual therapy or with family members in family therapy.
